Okanagan Wildlife

From Okanagan Bird Watching

The Similkameen and the Okanagan are home to a microcosm of unique Fauna and Flora found nowhere else:  Rattlesnakes, Rubber Boas, Tiger Salamanders, Bighorn Sheep, the Western Red Bat to name a few. Similkameen Wild is a bird watchers dream with over 300 species of birds in our varied landscapes — ranging from wetlands to desert –– we are one of the most unique types of habitat in the province – covering about only 1% of B.C.

To Okanagan Hiking

These habitats provide many benefits and services to humans – including filtering, storing, and recharging our water supply, purifying the air, providing insects to pollinate food, controlling floods and erosion, as well as storing carbon. But this doesn’t make them invincible. Our BC Grasslands are one of the most endangered environments in Canada which is why respecting the land and staying on established trails is important.

For an Okanagan Forever

Which is why we aim to be the pinnacle of what it means to be a conscious Okanagan wedding location and resort accommodation provider. Over the course of the next eight years, we will be pivoting our business development to align with the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development goals. As such, an Environmental Sustainability Tax of 3% is added to all bookings to help fund local conservation efforts.  Your stay and purchase at Similkameen Wild is an investment in our diverse, culturally rich communities and goes towards funding the future of local, sustainable, eco-tourism.
